A Nevada man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for fatally bludgeoning and stabbing his girlfriend, an attack that his own grandmother witnessed from a bedroom above.

Grandmother’s description of the attack

Brandon Tenorio, 42, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder before the sentencing in Las Vegas. An arrest report states that Tenorio’s grandmother was in a bedroom upstairs when she heard a loud thud.

The grandmother went to investigate and saw Tenorio standing over Kourtney Glover, 36, who was on the ground. Tenorio was hitting Glover’s head with a hammer. The grandmother told police she tried to pull Tenorio away, but he pushed her aside and ran from the house through the garage.

According to the arrest report, Tenorio came outside and dragged the woman back inside. During the struggle, he told her, “I’m not going to kill you.” She eventually escaped again and reached a neighbor’s home, where she called 911.

Officers arrived around 8:08 p.m. Tenorio walked out of the house with his hands raised, covered in blood. He told police, “I did it. I killed her, she is dead, she is inside.”

Investigation and statements

Inside the home, officers found Glover lying on her back at the base of the stairs near the kitchen. Police discovered blood throughout the house, a bloody hammer in the downstairs bathroom, and three bloody kitchen knives in the kitchen.

Glover was pronounced dead at the scene. During a police interview, Tenorio told detectives he believed people were trying to kill him and that he heard voices “all the time.” One voice told him, “It’s time to kill or be killed.”

He claimed he received a message on the Signal app telling him to “kill his grandma.” Tenorio said he believed a gas truck outside the home was part of a plot against him and that Glover was signaling to the driver with a flashlight.

Tenorio told police he grabbed a hammer and began striking Glover in the back of the head. He then took a kitchen steak knife and stabbed her in the neck, stomach, and back. He said that she was in pain, and he just wanted to make it stop. Tenorio stopped to smoke a cigarette.

Glover’s father, William Davis, told the judge he hopes Tenorio does his time and does not make it out of prison. He said he is an “eye-for-an-eye person” and does not believe in cutting Tenorio any slack for killing his daughter.

Glover’s sister, Ashley Davis, said in court that there is no sentence long enough to restore what Tenorio took. The special public defender noted that significant substance abuse and mental health issues were not treated at the time.

Special Public Defender Caitlyn McAmis told the court that it is “absolutely a tragedy what happened to Ms. Glover.” Tenorio reportedly apologized and said he accepted full responsibility.
