Bae, Kim & Lee LLC bolstered its capabilities by hiring Reema Dash, a lawyer qualified in India with 13 years of corporate and investment experience, to enhance support for Korean businesses in the Indian market.

Dash has worked at prominent Indian law firms, including Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, AZB & Partners, and J. Sagar Associates. She also held in-house roles at Morgan Stanley India and the Indian subsidiary of G42, a UAE-based global technology company.

Her area of expertise includes corporate and regulatory matters, compliance, corporate governance, capital markets, and technology infrastructure. She has managed equity and debt capital markets deals, financing and investment activities, listing preparations, corporate restructurings, and post-listing regulatory compliance and disclosure issues.

At G42, she worked on technology infrastructure projects, including an AI data center joint venture. In her new role, Dash will divide her time between Korea and Bengaluru, advising Korean companies on market entry, investment, and corporate matters in India.

Dash will collaborate with Sarthak Malhotra, an India-qualified lawyer specializing in international arbitration and dispute resolution. Together, they will support Korean clients throughout their investment journey, from initial market entry and investment to business operations and disputes.

Bae, Kim & Lee is also strengthening its physical presence in India. Starting in October, Garam Shon, a member of the firm’s India Task Force, will be stationed in Delhi on assignment to Trilegal. He will collaborate with local counsel to assist Korean clients with investment incentive negotiations, M&A deals, and joint venture establishment in India.

The expansion aligns with India’s rising significance as a destination for Korean investments, fueled by global supply chain shifts and government policies promoting manufacturing investment. As Korean investment in India grows, companies seek advice across the investment lifecycle, including entity establishment, investment structuring, regulatory compliance, financing, business operations, and exit strategies.

Through its India Task Force, Bae, Kim & Lee cultivates partnerships with Indian legal firms and institutions. This year, the firm organized a seminar in New Delhi and a joint event with AZB & Partners on investing in India, from entry to exit. It also collaborated with EY India for a seminar on market entry and exit strategies, addressing investment incentives, business structures, foreign direct investment regulations, and data protection.

Jongbaek Park, Head of Bae, Kim & Lee’s India Task Force, commented, “India is attracting growing interest from Korean companies and financial institutions, while handling differences in local regulations and practices across the country is essential. Drawing on the extensive local experience of Ms. Dash and Mr. Malhotra, we aim to bridge differences between the Korean and Indian legal systems and business practices and provide practical, closely tailored advice throughout our clients’ investment and business activities in India.”
